Te Rā Awnings: where form meets function

Offering unrestricted shade, unparalleled performance and unmatched customisation, our Te Rā Folding Arm Awning range deliver market-leading performance in New Zealand’s trying conditions. Don’t settle for second best, let us show you how Te Rā can answer your shading needs.

Uncompromising construction

In a land where the summer sun is incredibly strong, the winters are cold and wet, and rain can be a variable regardless of the forecast, anything placed in our outdoor environments needs to be built to last.

That’s why we’ve taken great care in sourcing the ‘ultimate’ awning for New Zealand’s conditions.

  • Stronger than steel
Folding arm awnings are constantly under tension. Spring-loaded, this makes the extension of your awning easy, but that also means they need to hold up.

Traditional folding arms are held by cable or chain. Cables are often made from a plastic polymer and stretch over time. Cables come with strength improvements, but being metal they are susceptible to the elements and tend to degrade over time (and can even snap when weakened).

Te Rā Awnings bypass this issue by using a Dyneema-tape connection over the knee and arm brackets. 15 times stronger than steel and 40% stronger than aramids on a weight for weight basis, they’re also UV, chemical and moisture resistant.

  • Marine-grade fabrics
Dickson® Orchestra marine-grade fabrics are our fabrics of choice when it comes to superior solar protection, guaranteeing excellent, long-term protection against our harsh UV rays, heat, glare and inclement weather.

Woven from 100% solution-dyed SUNACRYL acrylic, these exceptional quality fibres are solution-dyed, which means the colour pigments are incorporated during the actual manufacturing process, not afterwards, like most others. This means the colours stay truer for longer. Its special Awning coating gives it unrivalled resistance to stains, grease, water and dirt.
  • Stringently tested
The Te Rā Folding-Arm range of Awnings has been engineered to exceed stringent quality standards. The quality of an Awning can often be derived by its wind rating, that’s why our entire range benefits from thorough wind performance testing to meet European 13651 wind classification standards.

Customisable coverage

When it comes to outdoor shade options, there are many options available to you. From costly fixed frame verandas and open roof louvres to unreliable gazebos and shade sails, none are quite as versatile as folding arm Awnings.

  • Big shade
Non-structural, Te Rā Awnings bypass a lot of the red tape that hinders other market alternatives, but that certainly doesn’t detract from their performance. In terms of coverage, the robust retractable arms on a Te Rā Awning allows for maximum spans of seven metres in width and are capable of projecting up to four metres out from the building. This very generous coverage requires no posts or other structures for support (base structure allowing).
  • Narrow space, no problem
Until now, the reach of a folding arm awning would typically be determined by the length of its ‘arms’. In narrow spaces, that meant only short arms could be used as they needed to fold up side by side when retracted. Less arm length obviously then meant less shade, but our market exclusive Te Rā Eclipse provides a solution.

Featuring an ingenious arm overlap system, Te Rā Eclipse can be much longer than standard convention allows, dramatically increasing your weather protection regardless of space.

  • Pitch Control
As the seasons’ change, so too does the position of the sun. Low in the winter, high in the summer, static shade solutions struggle to provide all year coverage. The same can go for long summer days as the sun moves through the sky. That’s why we offer pitch control in select models of Te Rā.

With an optional adjustment function that allows you to vary the pitch of the Awning from -5˚ to -40˚, you can better control your desired mix of sun and shade all day long.

  • Indoor-outdoor flow
Lack of clearance above a doorway is no barrier to the Te Rā Beam. Utilising a change of pitch at the elbow joint, a near on horizontal protection is achieved closest to the mounting point. Perfect for clearing outward opening hinged doors and bi-folds, you’ll be able to achieve unimpeded indoor-outdoor flow all year round.

  • Innovative add-ons
With optional extras developed specifically for New Zealand available with selected Te Rā models, you don’t need to feel limited when it comes to your Awnings adaptability. With a range of exclusive add-ons including a roller valance built into the headrail for extra privacy/shading and telescopic poles for stabilisation in windy conditions, if you want the best than Te Rā Awnings is the solution.

Versatile operation

Finding the perfect blend in a sunny courtyard or on the deck is a cinch with Luxaflex Te Rā Folding Arm Awnings. Easy to operate, we’ve considered a variety of operation methods to suit your needs.

  • Manual crank
The traditional manual crank will easily project and retract Awnings up to 5500mm in width. Having fine-tuned the crank ratio, you’ll also benefit from a faster operation that’s easier to use. Larger awnings will benefit from motorised operation due to the weight of the Awning.

  • Motorisation and automation
We offer several methods of automation. As an opening price point, a Tube 4 Channel RTS Remote can be implemented as a hardwired solution and will allow you to control your awning via the touch of a button.

Somfy® automation provides a step up in functionality and ease. Hard-wired, control can be achieved via a wall switch or remote, with the possibility of home automation system integration. Upgrading to Somfy® Connexoon then opens up Awning control to smart devices, with voice control, scene-setting and scheduling then possible with IFTTT functionality.

For the ultimate in care-free automation, consider the addition of a sun, wind or motion sensor. Sun sensors are designed to extend your Awning and provide shade to your home limiting the load on your air conditioning.

The wind sensor comes in an anemometer style with a fan that spins in the wind. As the wind speed picks up, the sensor signals the awning motor to retract the awning to prevent damage.

And if you are looking for something a little more discrete, an Eolis 3D sensor can be mounted on the front of the folding arm Awning and uses a motion detector to sense the effects of the wind. (Note: other automation options can not be used in conjunction with this).
