It’s that time of year in New Zealand - woollen coats, puffer jackets and knit caps nation-wide are coming out of storage and making their way to the front of the closet. These winter staples will keep us warm and cosy when we go out - but what about maintaining our comfort when we stay home?
It all comes down to insulation.
But even in a well-insulated home, it’s possible to be losing more than 45% of your heat through the windows. By choosing the right window coverings you can prevent a significant amount of that heat loss - making a massive difference to the warmth and comfort of your family.
Recently, Consumer NZ conducted testing across all sorts of window coverings to determine what type was the best at retaining heat in the home. They found the best window insulator — by a wide margin — was cellular, honeycomb blinds. Honeycomb blinds significantly outperformed all other blinds as well as every type of curtain including heavy lined, floor-length drapes.
In fact, they concluded that if you are looking to refresh your window coverings, “your best bet is replacing them with honeycomb blinds.”
